The luxury compact SUV class is awash with talent in the form of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, and Genesis GV70, and to succeed in this distinguished company, you need to come up with something special. In last year’s review of the Lincoln Corsair, we found it left us wanting compared to rivals, and well down the class rankings next to most of the competition. Based on the same C2 platform that underpins the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport, the Lincoln puts the focus squarely on luxury and comfort, not sportiness or off-road ability.

Its traditional Lincoln garb is attractive, and there are just about enough luxury finishes inside to create a premium impression, despite a few cheaper plastics here and there. The Corsair has price in its favor, and its equipment level and the number of driver assists are impressively comprehensive. Is this enough to recommend the new 2025 Lincoln Corsair compact luxury crossover over its rivals? It faces an uphill battle, but maybe this year’s updates make a difference.

As the smallest Lincoln vehicle, the Corsair slots below the Nautilus, Aviator, and Navigator in the American automaker’s hierarchy of SUVs. Lincoln debuted the Ford Escape-based Corsair for the 2025 model year, and there are only minor changes for 2025. The Corsair competes with other small luxury SUVs including the Volvo XC60, Acura RDX, Audi Q5, and Tesla Model Y.

The Corsair’s greatest strength is that Lincoln doesn’t compromise its approach to luxury when downsizing from its larger SUVs. At times, the Corsair can even feel like a baby Navigator.

Of course, the Corsair shares plenty of hardware with its Ford Escape sibling, but Lincoln has done a particularly impressive job disguising and elevating those pedestrian underpinnings. The interior is a treat, with art-deco design cues and high-quality materials. Solid-feeling switchgear and orchestral chimes played by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra remind the driver this is no $25,000 Escape.

A plush, quiet ride helps distinguish the Corsair, too. Thanks to accurate steering, this little Lincoln feels pretty tossable around a corner, and the optional AWD setup even enables some rally-car antics. Straight-line performance is only par for the segment, though, and we found the brakes a little grabby for our tastes. For the most part, though, the Corsair delivers a relaxing drive.

Pricey options mean the Corsair can get quite expensive. Still, Lincoln’s small SUV is worth consideration for its style, comfort, and distinct brand of luxury.

Most of the redesigns mean getting a new platform as the most important novelty. This model won’t be an exception. We are about to see a complete architecture, which even didn’t get a name. It should be a highly modular platform, with a front-wheel-drive layout. It will be used primarily for compact cars, so we should find it in new versions of Ford’s popular models like Focus and Escape.

This platform will bring plenty of novelties and one of the most interesting would be a compatibility with electrified powertrains. This includes both hybrid and all-electric powertrains, though it is hard to say at the moment will the new 2025 Lincoln Corsair be available with electric powertrain already for the initial release.

2025 Lincoln Corsair Engines

We are pretty sure that the new 2025 Lincoln Corsair will come in multiple powertrain options. Of course, the core will be gasoline engines, though electrified units should come.

Most likely, the base engine will be a familiar 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine, which is good for about 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. A 2.3-liter inline four should be offered as an option. This unit is good for about 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. In both variants, power will be delivered to front wheels, but an AWD layout will probably be offered as an option.

These two gasoline engines, we should also see a hi-performance hybrid powertrain in the offer. Most likely, it will be built over the same 2.3-liter gasoline unit, but assisted by some hi-output electric motor. Some reports suggest even a max power of 350 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Given Ford’s electrification plans, we should see an all-electric version in the future, though we can’t say anything more specific at the moment. It seems that this version won’t be ready for the initial launch.

Lincoln has dropped the 295-hp 2.3-liter engine this year, so the only available gas-only engine in the Lincoln Corsair this year is a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder with 250 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is optionally available for $2,300.

The only other powertrain option available is the plug-in hybrid setup in the Grand Touring – a 2.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder, electric motor, and 14.4-kWh battery pack, producing a combined 266 hp and shipped with standard AWD. We review the 2025 Lincoln Corsair Hybrid separately.

2025 Lincoln Corsair Performance

With a 250-hp 2.0-liter engine, the Lincoln Corsair’s 0-60 sprint is dispatched in just over six seconds, making it decently powerful and swift enough for its comfort-oriented target market, if somewhat slower than what a BMW buyer might expect. Top speed is 130 mph. With a ground clearance of close to eight inches, the Corsair will be able to take on rough roads and can reach that campsite in the countryside, especially with the optional AWD specified, but it’s not a hardcore off-road vehicle and doesn’t have a dual-range transmission. Most people will need no more than the FWD configuration unless it snows where they live. Trailering is on the cards, though, and with the factory tow hitch installed, you can hitch up to 3,000 pounds behind the Corsair.

Plug-in hybrid models are more powerful. Despite more power, the PHEV is heavier, so don’t expect a more rapid benchmark sprint; independent tests suggest 60 mph comes up in closer to seven seconds.

We expect to see a significant improvement in this aspect compared to the current MKC model. It is still early to speculate about details, it seems pretty much for sure that 2025 Lincoln Corsair will take a lot of inspiration from the Aviator concept. It is a completely new design language, characterized by more masculine overall shape. You can easily notice more upright front and rear ends. There is a brand-new hi-gloss grille, which is probably the most prominent part of the crossover’s new front end. If the company decide new 2025 Lincoln Corsair to mimic the Aviator concept entirely, we should also see a new tailgate design, which houses complete rear lighting, which definitely gives an additional dose of premium feel. Of course, expect to see plenty of new details as well, though we can say more about them at the moment.

In its first significant facelift since its 2025 introduction, the 2025 Corsair gets a restyled front bumper with wing-shaped DRLs and a larger waterfall grille. The blacked-out Jet Appearance package is now offered on both Standard and Reserve trims. The Grand Touring PHEV gets blue exterior accents and satin-metallic exterior trim. Various new wheel designs in sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches are available. Inside, all trims in the 2025 range get the large 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and the infotainment system gets a new 13.2-inch touchscreen and Sync 4 software. The lower floating portion of the center stack is redesigned and smaller, with fewer buttons and controls on it. There are newly available Eternal Red and Smoked Truffle interior colors too.

Available driver-assistance tech is substantially upgraded and comprises Lincoln ActiveGlide 1.2 that introduces predictive speed assist, hands-free highway driving, lane-change assist, and lane tracing on 130,000 miles of prequalified highways, while the new Intersection Assist 2.0 checks for pedestrians when turning at intersections. On the mechanical front, the 295-hp 2.3-liter engine has been dropped and only the 250-hp 2.0-liter engine remains in the gas Corsairs. 2025 Lincoln Corsair Exterior

The exterior of the Corsair is typically Lincoln and looks pleasingly upmarket, with a brand-new front bumper this year containing a larger waterfall grille. Wing-shaped DRLs look smart, and LED headlights are standard across the board, with the Reserve and Grand Touring’s jeweled headlights a cut above the Standard’s normal ones. The Standard runs on 18-inch alloy wheels and the other two trims on 19s, although various other wheels up to 20 inches in size are available.

The Standard has no roof rails, and its honeycomb-mesh grille has more chrome on it than the other trims’ more subtle item. The top two trims have satin-silver roof rails. The lower body cladding and wheel-arch moldings are black in the Standard and Reserve, with a satin-silver diffuser insert in the rear bumper, while the Grand Touring gets body-color moldings and a gloss-black diffuser insert. A panoramic sunroof is standard on the PHEV Grand Touring only.

Dimensions

The exterior dimensions of the Lincoln Corsair are more or less what you would expect for this class, but its length of 181.4 inches is 4-5 inches shorter than most rivals. The Standard has a width of 83 inches with its mirrors included, and the other two trims are 83.6 inches wide; width without mirrors is 74.3 inches across the board. In terms of height, all three models differ: 64.1 inches for the Standard, 64.2 inches for the Reserve, and 63.8 inches for the PHEV Grand Touring. A wheelbase of 106.7 inches is common to all.

The FWD Corsairs have a curb weight of 3,685 pounds, and this increases to 3,836 with AWD. The plug-in hybrid system in the AWD-only Grand Touring naturally makes this the heaviest trim at 4,414 lbs. The gas FWD models have a ground clearance of 7.8 inches, the gas AWD models stand 7.9 inches clear of the ground, and the Grand Touring has only 6.8 inches of clearance.

This part of the 2025 Lincoln Corsair is probably the biggest mystery at the moment. The new crossover will surely get a completely new cabin, though we can’t say how the new interior will look like. At the moment, we can only presume that the new model will feature two rows of seating. Naturally, in a 2 +3 combination. Of course, we will see new, higher-quality materials, as well as a bunch of new technologies, especially in terms of advanced safety and driver-assist systems.

We were quite impressed with the interior of the Lincoln Corsair last year, noting that it generally feels upmarket, save for a few cheaper plastics here and there that don’t detract too much from the luxury impression. Now it’s been improved with a standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster across the board and a far larger infotainment screen. This goes with a redesigned and cleaned-up floating center stack with fewer buttons, which not everyone will appreciate since more functions are relegated to the touchscreen. The added tech modernizes the interior, and with its good finish and many soft-touch materials, spending time inside the Corsair is no hardship. The space available to passengers is good and the ride is comfortable and quiet. It’s easy to get in and out of the Corsair, and there aren’t any major blind spots to note.
